Newborn: Shaping Little Sleepers (up to 16 weeks)

Hi, I am Emily Meindertsma. I am a pediatric sleep consultant and physical therapist and it is never too early to start supporting your baby’s sleep. A little education goes a LONG way.

Newborn sleep education and support through the newborn time.

I educate and support moms throughout the newborn stage on how to support their baby’s sleep. Through daily routines and calming strategies, we get your baby sleeping longer stretches sooner while setting the foundation for independent sleep in the future. This way you have the space to rest, heal and enjoy your little newborn.

Is this you???

  • You are up all night with the baby because your husband has to work in the morning. You wake up frustrated & extremely tired, but sadly, your husband doesn’t quite get it.

  • Your first child wasn’t so hard, but you were younger and had more energy. It is so much harder to deal with the frequent night wakings in your 30’s & 40’s.

  • You are planning to go back to work after maternity leave and you’ll need your baby to sleep more than 3 hours at a time.

  • You are terrified you will fall asleep feeding your baby or trying to calm them. This gives you a lot of unwanted anxiety.

What if???

  • You had a plan on how to develop good daily routines & habits. You could have a more predictable schedule.

  • You didn’t have to struggle with your baby’s sleep - you had a plan from the start.

  • You were able to get longer stretches of sleep SOONER at night - think 4-5 hours instead of 2-3 hours.

  • You knew you could savor & enjoy the newborn experience because you and your partner actually were able to sleep at night.

You can do this all without sacrificing your attachment with your baby or leaving your baby alone to cry-it-out.

Here’s the Problem…

  • There is so much information out there. You keep hearing that you won’t be getting any sleep and this semi-terrifies you. You want to be prepared, so you might have bought a book or read a mom blog or two, but you aren’t sure what’s actually important to know.

  • Sadly, they did not cover sleep in your prenatal class. You were ready for the birth but aren’t confident when it comes to knowing your baby’s needs and getting a restful night’s sleep.

  • You are a great mom but you’re overwhelmed by everything. You are sleep deprived or on your way to knowing that it could be a possibility and realistically, you want to be enjoying this exciting stage in motherhood.

  • Society has scared you into thinking that moms don’t sleep, but you know this doesn’t have to be your normal.

I want to tell you, IT CAN BE BETTER! You don’t have to struggle with sleep as a new mom!

Imagine if…

  • Your baby was able to fall asleep without you having to constantly hold them or rock them for hours (no more back pain)

  • You had more time to yourself so that you could workout, call a friend, do laundry, watch tv, mindlessly scroll on your phone, take a long shower, or read a book.

  • Your baby, in a few short weeks, could go to sleep at bedtime quickly and you could have your nights back with your husband (cook dinner, have a glass of wine, watch Netflix)

  • You knew you could go back to work and your baby could confidently sleep without you having to hold, rock or feed them to sleep every hour.

Hi, I’m Emily, owner/founder of Sound of Sleeping. I am a physical therapist and pediatric sleep consultant. I was a mom just like you. I saw others around me having babies and wanted to be as prepared as possible when it came to my newborn. Before my son was born, I educated myself on ideal daytime routines and how to get longer stretches of sleep at night. And, once my son was born, I was so happy I decided to implement everything I had learned. Those stretches at night were EVERYTHING. My son caught on fairly quickly and the whole family was sleeping! We had such a peaceful newborn experience and I want other moms to have that as well.

Over time, I realized sleep was a big passion of mine which led me down the path to become a sleep consultant. I was talking to everyone about my sleep tips and helping my friends get their little ones sleeping just like mine.

I wholeheartedly believe that a little education goes a long way. I strive to help families get the sleep they need in the newborn stage. Sleep is a necessity not optional. We need sleep to learn, grow and thrive. Getting sleep from the beginning also helps moms get better care postpartum. Despite what the world says about being a parent and it being a badge of honor to be tired, YOUR MOTHERHOOD JOURNEY DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY.

IT CAN BE BETTER

Who I work with

  • Pregnant moms

  • Veteran moms

  • Working parents going back to work

  • Stay at home moms

  • Moms of Multiples

  • Type A moms who really want to plan

Some things we will work on together…

  • Creating good daily routines instead of schedules to help anticipate your baby’s needs. Including when it is appropriate to feed your baby, how long they should be awake, and when it is okay to wake your baby. Being able to anticipate your baby’s needs will give you control over a time which may feel out of control. You will be able to structure your days for your baby to have more successful sleep earlier on.

  • Creating positive sleep associations. These are steps you will take to let your baby know it is time to sleep. This includes a solid bedtime routine which your baby will eventually be able to identify as the steps to going to sleep and staying asleep.

  • Creating good sleep habits which will result in longer stretches of sleep during nighttime. This includes feeding your baby while they are awake and working on placing them in their bassinet for naps as time goes on.

How it works:

STEP 1

Book a discovery call - on this call, it will give me a chance to get to know you and your growing family. We can discuss your concerns and your sleep goals. I’ll share with you more about my prenatal program and see if what I offer is a good fit for you. If we both decide to move forward, then I'll send you the contract and invoice.

STEP 2

Once you purchase the plan, I will send you a detailed questionnaire which will guide our 60 minute consultation call. We’ll set-up a time which works best for you to go over everything newborn sleep and walk you through the nursery guidelines. If your nursery is ready to go,  I will conduct a nursery assessment and provide you with any feedback around the safety of your child’s sleep space. If the nursery isn’t set-up yet, no problem, we will schedule another time for us to conduct this assessment.

STEP 3

2 weeks of support from me to get your footing on how to establish good routines with your baby.

STEP 4

During the first 16 weeks of the baby's life, I will be supporting you with any questions you may have around sleep or motherhood. You won’t be alone. I will be there for you every step of the way.

What you’ll get:

Support through your newborn experience while setting the foundations for independent sleep.
